On November 1st, Israeli strikes killed eight people in Gaza, according to medics and Hamas-run interior ministry officials. A missile hit civilians near the Cairo School, located in the Al-Rimal neighbourhood, and killed three people including a four year old boy. Six other civilians were seriously injured in the strike. Since October 10th, when the ceasefire was enacted, the interior ministry in a statement reported that in total 75 police personnel were killed.
The recent killing on November 1 shows Israel's ignorance of the recommendations by the UN Independent international commission of inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territory (COI OPT) and violation of the October 10, 2025 ceasefire deal and continuation of war crimes in Gaza. The ceasefire deal was pursued in two phases; the first was enacted on October 10, 2025, and involved exchanging 48 Israelis kidnapped by Hamas in exchange for a ceasefire of all military exchanges on the Gaza Strip. Israel declared the start of phase two in January 2026, with efforts made to establish twenty points to broker peace in the region. These points include the formation of a board of peace for the redevelopment and governance of Gaza through the end of the year, stabilization at the Gaza Strip by bringing the military operations at halt and disarmament of Hamas. Since the enactment of the second phase, both the Israeli government and Hamas have been unable to agree on ceasefire terms; meanwhile, Hamas is reasserting its control over the Gaza Strip, while Israeli troops are simultaneously engaging in broad-scale violence that are both pushing the territory away from stabilization.
Since the attack orchestrated by Hamas on October 7th, 2023, the total death toll in Gaza has reached 74,609 with an additional total of 175,872 people injured, according to a statement by the Palestinian health ministry. Since the ceasefire technically began in October 2025, a total 1,593 people have been killed with an additional 5,748 injured. The Palestinian Ministry of the Interior and National Security condemned the “horrific massacre” of civilians in Gaza and called for the international community to take urgent action against Israel to stop the strikes; meanwhile, the Israeli army told AFP (Agence France-Presse) that their strikes were meant to target “a terrorist” in the southern region of Gaza.
The Palestinian Al-Ahrar movement, a militant group engaged in fighting for the freedom of Palestine, also condemned additional Israeli attacks on police posts on November 1. In a statement, the movement described the attacks as a new crime that shows Israeli violations of the ceasefire deal and called for the international community to respond and take immediate action. Until now, no international or regional body has broken its silence to specifically address or penalise the November 1 incident.
On October 30th, the United Nations Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner (OHCHR) warned of a deepening nightmare of displacement in Gaza and stated that the concerns of ethnic cleansing continue as the Israeli forces move deeper into Palestinian territory. The land where the displaced Palestinians are fleeing to is shrinking, with Israel using drone strikes to target civilian tents.“The nightmare of displacement in Gaza is both acute and chronic,” said Ajith Sunghay, Head of UN Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). This is important in the context of the strikes of November 1 for the attacks directly affected the civilian tents and forced people to leave the area empty, as reported by Reuters.
Previously, On October 26, 2026, the OHCHR said in a press release that UN commission of enquiry found that Israel has committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Occupied Palestinian Territory amid continuing genocide in Gaza.
The commission made several recommendations that Israel should comply with the “advisory opinion of July 2024 of the International Court of Justice and immediately end the unlawful occupation of Palestinian territory and remove all settlers and settlements.” The recent November 1 strikes directly ignores the recommendations of the commission and shows no improvement in the situation of Palestinians in Gaza during this phase of the ceasefire deal.
Israel should end the confiscation of Palestinian property and return back the confiscated land to its original Palestinian owners.
