The Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar have been the subject of discrimination and persecution in their country since 1948. In the last few decades, the Rohingya have experienced targeted genocide and anti-Muslim attacks resulting in mass killings and forced relocation. The recent full-scale, systematic genocide of the Rohingya began in August 2017, pushing over one million Rohingya out of Myanmar.
This timeline project explores the history of the Rohingya and discusses important events throughout their struggle. As the Rohingya continue to face statelessness and genocidal acts, it is critical to share their story.
