HRRC's Response:

Today is International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances. Unfortunately, thousands of people around the world continue to be "disappeared", leaving families and communities without answers. Enforced disappearances often include detention, torture, and extrajudicial execution.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) recently published a report in collaboration with Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights and Asian Human Rights Commission, highlighting Bangladesh officials' involvement in hundreds of enforced disappearances within the country. The government has failed to investigate its security forces which are notorious for committing human rights abuses. In addition, family members and witnesses are continually harassed and threatened, told not to look for or ask questions about their missing loved ones.

HRRC supports HRW's recommendations in asking foreign governments to impose targeted sanctions on those implicated in the enforced disappearances. The Bangladesh government must be held accountable.
