Michael Masrie is a researcher and analyst specializing in diplomacy, international relations, and peace and security. He holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy and a Bachelor’s in Political Science and International Relations from Addis Ababa University. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Peace and Security Studies at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), focusing on data sovereignty, digital diplomacy, and regional security in the Horn of Africa.
His academic work explores how digital technologies intersect with governance, security, and state sovereignty, with a particular focus on AI and the emerging digital order. Michael brings over a decade of experience in journalism and media analysis, contributing to international outlets on political, security, financial, and policy issues across Ethiopia and the wider region.
Michael combines rigorous research and field experience to produce evidence-based insights that inform policy, strengthen peacebuilding, and amplify African perspectives in global security and governance debates.
