Mariyam Yumna is an Attorney-at-Law with over six years of experience in the development sector. She holds an LLM in Public and International Law from the University of Colombo, where her master's thesis focused on the appointment of female judges under Sri Lanka's Muslim Marriage & Divorce Act, analyzing the topic from the perspectives of equality and non-discrimination.
Throughout her academic and professional career, she has developed a profound interest in human rights, humanitarian law, and peace and conflict studies, with a particular emphasis on transitional justice and gender justice. She has worked with multiple non-governmental organizations both in Sri Lanka and internationally, currently serving as a Project Officer at the Centre for Equality & Justice and as an Associate Researcher at Security Women.
She aims to leverage her extensive skills and experience to advance human rights, promote social cohesion, and contribute to sustainable peacebuilding efforts, particularly within communities affected by conflict.
