Joanie Dawson, MPH is a published writer and professional editor who specializes in health and human rights, particularly women’s human rights. She earned her bachelor’s degree in public health from Stockton State University and a master’s from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. After college, she joined the Peace Corps and served in the Dominican Republic. Once bitten by the travel bug, Joanie would visit nearly 40 countries and live in four. She taught ESL in Istanbul, Turkey, and edited ESL books in South Korea. It’s there that Joanie became interested in human rights, joining Amnesty International and Volunteers Crossing Borders for Women’s Human Rights. After working in Korea, she went on a human rights delegation in Guatemala to learn about femicide. Subsequently, she served on the board of the organization, the Guatemala Human Rights Commission, for five years. She’s also volunteered with Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition International (TASSC).
