Irem Cakmak, LLM

Irem has recently graduated from Utrecht University, earning their LL.M. in Public International Law, specializing in human rights law. They wrote their thesis on critically analyzing the concept of ‘persecution’ in International and European Refugee Law. They obtained their LL.B. in Law from Bilkent University.

After their studies, they worked as a paralegal, assisting asylum seekers in the USA with their application process. Moreover, they advocated for protection of human rights in several NGOs and academic initiatives by authoring news articles, and bringing law students and young lawyers from all over Europe together.

Irem’s primary interests inclue refugee law, human rights law, international security studies, and gender studies.
