Elizabeth Lyons

Elizabeth Lyons studies how authoritarian governance, democratic erosion, and religious authority shape the conditions under which human rights are violated. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and Religious Studies from UNC–Chapel Hill and is completing an M.A. in Conflict Resolution at Georgetown University with a certificate in Women, Peace, and Security. Her research trajectory—spanning Egypt’s legitimacy crises, European democratic backsliding, and on-the-ground exposure to post-conflict contexts in the Balkans—has led to a focused interest in mass atrocity prevention and transitional justice.
